This will be a full day of exploring destinations not usually seen or experienced by the average visitor to the World Heritage-listed upper Blue Mountains west of Sydney.
Yes you could visit all the usual standard and well worn Blue Mountains crowded tourist destinations but isn t it more fun to step off the trail and explore those little known places that only us locals know about?
I’d like you to join me to explore the unknown to see places that few have seen to take home memories and tell of experiences that your friends will envy.
We will experience awesome vistas explore amazing caves walk through cool rain forests and dine on yummy local food and drink.
The goal for the day is to avoid all the usual crowded tourist hot spots and visit some really outstanding secret places.
Our day starts at Katoomba and we’ll travel as far as Little Hartley with stops in Medlow Bath Blackheath Megalong Valley Shipley and Mount Victoria.

Hike to a secluded and virtually unknown spot that has dramatic views into the Megalong Valley
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Medlow Bath Medlow Bath Blue Mountains New South Wales
Our next destination we’ll take a very short stop to grab a coffee/drink to-go and take a sneak peek at some interesting mountains memorabilia
Duration: 20 minutes
Stop At: Blackheath Blackheath Blue Mountains New South Wales
We’ll now make our way further north to a seriously amazing secret cave grotto and – if it’s been raining recently – a beautiful waterfall that you can even walk behind too! In fact this waterfall can get quite thunderous and raging – so cross fingers for some earlier rain before your day trip.

Next we’re off for another walk through a truly wondrous cool and ancient rain forest where it’s easy to image a dinosaur hiding around the next fern. There is also a lovely gentle creek running through this rain forest so this and the filtered light makes for some stunning photo opportunities – just remember to bring your jumper or coat as it can get a bit cool in the rain forest at times.

Now it’s time for lunch so we’ll grab a scrumptious meal at a local cafe that has been operating for over 60 years. Whilst enjoying our yummy meal we’ll take in the views of the iconic escarpments and the local bush land of the upper Blue Mountains.

Our next stop is a short trip along the Shipley Plateau to where you’ll have an almost 360 panoramic view across the dramatic cliff lines of the Blue Mountains escarpment and through to grazing agricultural and bush areas of the Megalong Valley and the distant mountains and valleys beyond.

Returning along the plateau we then take walk along the heath and scrub of Blackheath and then down below the cliffline which again gives amazing views. If it’s a good weather day there’s likely to be climbers scaling the cliffs above us.

We’ll continue our day tour down through Victoria Pass to beautiful Little Hartley for an afternoon snack and drink at the sweetest little shop in the Blue Mountains

Stop At: Mount Victoria Mount Victoria New South Wales
Once we’re fully refreshed it’s back to the top of Victoria Pass and then a short walk to our last stop of the day to take in the afternoon sun and to watch the ever-changing views across the upper Blue Mountains as the sun goes down. Make sure you have a warm jumper or jacket for this bit – it can get very cold once the sun goes down.
