Visit a Yol?u Homeland and become part of a small family community and spend time with the Yol?u people living and working on their traditional homelands.

Feel like part of the family take part in daily activities and make lasting friendships. Your stay will begin with a?ÿ welcome to country or smoking ceremony. You will learn about Yol?u kinship traditional lore and language both spoken and sign. Throughout your visit you will participate in a range of activities which may include traditional spear fishing gathering of bush foods and medicine weaving jewellery making dance (Bunggul) storytelling or learning how the Yidaki (didjeridu) is made and played.?ÿ

Itinerary

Day 1: Meet Yolngu guide and transfer to Yolngu Homeland. (Itinerary subjec to to change due to weather or cultural reasons))

Stop At: Arnhem Land North-eastern corner of the Northern Territory Melville Bay Road Nhulunbuy Northern Territory 0880 Australia
Arrive Yol?u Homeland where you will receive a traditional welcome to country and general orientation.

This afternoon your hosts will deliver a Yolgnu cultural class sharing and telling the story of the homeland.

Dinner & fireside chat.

If you are arriving Darwin and your flight arrives prior to 9.30am we will arrange to pick you up from the airport. If after this time you will need to arrive the day prior. Accommodation will be at your own expense.

Cultural awareness talk commences – some areas covered may include:
ƒ?› Yol?u culture and kinship ƒ??ƒ?› Basic Yol?u Matha language ƒ??ƒ?› Yol?u law ƒ??ƒ?› Avoidance relationships ƒ??ƒ?› Yol?u sign language ƒ??ƒ?› Activities such as spear fishing for men and weaving for women.

Women may partake in weaving painting and other activities

Men may partake in fishing hunting digeridoo making and other activities

Cultural program continues. Farewell your Yolngu hosts after lunch.

Depart Yolngu homeland and travel back to Nhulunbuy
