This tour only runs when there is a Cruise Ship docked in Port Arthur harbour. This excursion is run for cruise ship passengers when their ship stands off in the bay at Port Arthur who does not wish to spend the whole day at Port Arthur Historic Site.
Take this 3 to 4-hour tour from your cruise ship arrival point at Port Arthur Historic Site. Our guide and small tour bus will take you to explore the beautiful surrounding area of the Tasman Peninsula with its stunning coastal rock formations and the opportunity to visit a local wildlife park to see the Tasmanian Devil.

Stop At: Remarkable Cave Cave Road Port Arthur Tasmania 7182 Australia

We will meet you at the entrance of the Port Arthur Historic Site Visitor Centre. From here it is only a short drive to Maingon Point where you can climb down and up more than 200 steps to see the natural wonders of the Remarkable Cave. This beautiful cave has been carved out of the sandstone cliff face by the sea to form a rock bridge. At high tide it??s particularly wonderous as you watch the water wash in and out of the cave and view its layers of dolerite and sandstone rocks which form most of Tasmania’s geology. For those who are not able to negotiate the steps there is an alternative small path that provides coastal views and information on local birds and plants.

Stop At: Coal Mines Historic Site Coal Mines Road via Premaydena Saltwater River Tasmania 7186 Australia

The tour group will then continue along the circular route around the Tasman Peninsula toward Saltwater River and visit the ruins of the oldest coal mine in Tasmania which was created both for its much-needed source of coal and as a place of punishment for the ??worst-class?? of convicts. You could spend hours walking among the ruins of this very interesting site which in conjunction with the Port Arthur Historic Site makes up part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage properties.

From here the excursion takes the route through to Eaglehawk Neck and past the quaint seaside village of Doo Town with its quaint and humorous house names all containing the word Doo. Doo Town emerged in the 1930s as a small village of holiday cottages or ‘shacks’ and Hobart architect Eric Round named his shack ‘Doo I’. The idea soon caught on with Doo-Me and Doo-Us and today most of the town’s shacks have ‘Doo’ names.

On the return to Port Arthur for an additional fee the group can visit the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo which offers face to face encounters with Tasmanian Devils and other native wildlife.

The tour is rounded off nicely with a short stop at the Port Arthur Lavender Farm before returning you to your ship at the Port Arthur Historic Site.
