One of Australia??s most significant historical sites for women the Female Factory was the female equivalent of Port Arthur and was used to hold both women and children throughout the 1820??s. It was a terrible place with only the most basic of facilities. Some ruins of the original building and walls still exist. A memorial garden and information wall/structure has been set up at the site to remember the tragic lives of those women.
