Leaving from Hobart the group will take a small bus tour over the Tasman Bridge south towards the Tasman Peninsula and the Port Arthur Historic Site. Along the way you will see beautiful farmland and the quiet fishing town of Dunalley which suffered a severe bushfire in 2013 yet have inspired many with their brave stories and amazing recovery.
On arrival at the Port Arthur Historic Site you will have an opportunity to join a 40-minute guided introductory walking tour which provides a wonderful insight into its people and its past. Led by an experienced tour guide you will be given an overview of the most significant highlights of the historic site a great foundation to continue exploring at your leisure.
Your entry includes a fully narrated 25-minute harbour cruise within the harbour just off the historic site during which you will be able to see and learn about the ship building dockyard the island cemetery the Isle of the Dead and the Point Puer the site of the English colonies first reformatory boys prison. While enjoying the view and storytelling onboard you will be able to enjoy a warm drink have a bite to eat or sample a local wine or beer.
The tour will spend a maximum of 2.5 hours at Port Arthur Historic Site; therefore we recommend enjoying a lunch whilst on the cruise to give yourself the maximum amount of time to explore the grounds.
Golf buggies are sometimes available for anyone who would find walking around the grounds a challenge. Refreshments are also available in the restaurant situated in the visitor centre at the main entrance to the site (at own expense).

From here you will travel back towards Hobart first visiting Richmond Village which features two of Australia’s oldest convict constructed churches St Johns Roman Catholic Church and St Luke s Anglican Church. Not only that they also have the beautiful sandstone Richmond Bridge which is the oldest convict-built bridge still in use in Australia. Whilst here you can also visit the Richmond Goal and wander the beautiful streets with its quaint galleries boutique craft shops museums and a very popular old-style sweet shop. We also recommend a visit to Old Hobart Town a garden model display of Hobart as it was in the 1820s.

If you choose to include a trip to the top of Mt Wellington you will be spoilt with incredible panoramic views over Hobart the Derwent River Bruny Island and down towards the Huon Valley. Please note: If you have selected this option at the time of booking and the trip up the mountain is not possible on the day of travel due to bad weather conditions you will receive a Hobart city tour as an alternative. This option may not always be available for Cruise Ship passengers who may have time constraints.
